Reconfiguring Comics in our Digital Era

Graphic narratives consist in the projection of a sequence of images in a visual space. This sequential and spatial nature explains why each graphic narrative must adapt to the specific visual constraints of its medium. Moreover, it is rare for a story to be published in only one medium, which leads to many reconfigurations over the course of its editorial history. Reading on the screen of PC, iPads or smartphones has only made the work of adapting graphic narratives more complex, with new media being added to the old ones. The project aims to draw up an inventory of European digital comics, to develop a better understanding of the reconfiguration processes and how images of comics are read, and to develop digital tools to facilitate the work of authors when they have to transform their works to adapt them to a variety of media.
