Les Créatives Festival: Conversation between Judith Butler and Lauren Bastide

In this online talk, gender theorist Judith Butler will discuss her latest work, in which she examines the concept of non-violence as an ethical position and bodily practice.

If violence is always interpreted in a historically specific way, interpreting it in a radically different way would allow for new performative narratives. How can we think of this “negative”, this “no”, in order to make use of it?

As part of the Les Créatives Festival, Butler will explore the limits of our imagination to think about non-violence as a society, in conversation with author, journalist and feminist activist Lauren Bastide.

This event can be watched live on lescreatives.ch, or via the festival’s YouTube page and Facebook pages. The recording of this event will also be available at a later date. The event will be held in partnership with the University of Geneva (UNIGE) within the framework of Human Rights Week, UNIGE’s Institute for Ethics, History and the Humanities, and the Fonds Chalumeau.

Les Créatives is a Swiss forum aimed at addressing issues related to the gendered division of professions, sex work, sexism, in the public space, and domestic violence. This year the event runs from November 14th-29th.
