Call for articles on media storage from the Société pour l’histoire des médias

The journal Le Temps des médias. Revue d’histoire is published by the Société pour l’histoire des médias (Society for Media History) in collaboration with the group “Temps, médias, sociétés” (IEP Paris). Submissions for the 38th edition on “Stockage“, or storage, are now being sought by November 6th, 2020.

Although the topics of memory and archives have given rise to considerable cross-disciplinary interest, the issue of storage – of media content, information, data, documents and objects, as well as the use of stored content – has received less attention. In particular, and more specifically in French speaking scholarly work, research has rarely viewed the question of storage in conjunction with the related long-term practices.

This special issue of Le Temps des médias therefore intends to explore three strands – the storage of media content, storage media, and the use of stored content– and links between them. The special issue encourages a long-term perspective, and welcomes proposals that fall within the following broad areas (or look at a subject linking them) :

  • Media and storage : theoretical and historiographical approaches
  • Storage of media content
  • Production and use of stored content and information

Those interested in contributing should send an abstract of 500 to 650 words, together with a title, a short bibliography and a biography (not included in the word count), jointly to Katharina Niemeyer : niemeyer.katharina@uqam.ca and Valérie Schafer : valerie.schafer@uni.lu by November 6th, 2020. The edition will be published in the first half of 2022.
