COVID-19 – A guide to support professionals involved in effective mobilization in crisis situations

Prof. Guy Elcheroth, a researcher at the National Centre of Competence in Research LIVES – Overcoming Vulnerability: A Life Course Perspective at the University of Lausanne, collects 10 practical tips and 10 scientific results in a guide to mobilise 3 types of social behaviour: protection, solidarity and resilience.

The current challenge we are facing is to build, as a matter of urgency, public action capable of mobilizing three types of social behavior, on which the course of the health crisis and its attending human impact will depend:- protective behaviors, i.e. compliance with public health recommendations and social distancing in particular – supportive behaviors, in particular solidarity with vulnerable people and a commitment to the continuity of essential services- resilient behaviors, in order to prevent secondary damage generated by the distressing situation or by inappropriate collective responses.  Prof. Guy Elcheroth’s guide aims to support all the actors involved in coordinating public action during this health crisis, in their difficult task of effectively mobilizing these three types of prosocial behaviors. It is based on an up-to-date review of the international literature in social psychology and related social sciences.
